Mini-Project Week 5

The Floabulary video below is an excellent way to introduce the key elements of reading and writing narrative fiction.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6I24S72Jps

This is a video that  could play to introduce a lesson or unit on narrative writing. The students would write in their notebooks the key terms character, setting, plot, theme, and conflict. This will serve as a graphic organizer when they look at a story they are reading. Also, it will allow them to record these elements in stories from the text as well as stories presented from other videos on the internet. In either case, as the students watched this video, they would draw vertical lines on their papers and write each of the five terms at the top of that column and underline it. This would serve as their template for other assignments on the same topics.

Classroom blogs

Four Ways Classroom Blogs are Used
1.       I loved the way teachers introduced students to blogging by having them construct their blog entries and include photos to exemplify their work process.
2.       Blogs also have the ability to direct student research by providing links for them to follow. This allows a safe environment where students can follow links directly to the necessary information.
3.       I saw a number of blogs that used their entries to give instructions to the students for assignments. It was the student’s responsibility to check the blog, perform the requested tasks, and turn it in.
4.       A science class blog used the posts to provide evidence of the experiements performed in class. This allowed those students who missed or who do not have access to the supplies other schools might have to have the chance to gain the same knowledge as those in the class who performed the experiments.
Ways In Which I Might Use My Blog
1.       In my blog, I would like to pose questions or assignments for my students to perform. In their responses, they will create writing products, use pictures ad videos to display their progress.
Evidence Learning is Taking Place
1.       In creating these assignments, I will provide a rubric for the work products. Their ability to follow the rubric to create quality assignments will enable them to show proficiency.
2.       I will monitor entries in their use of grammar and structure as well as their inclusion of main ideas with proper supporting details to assess student learning.
